Cunnane Stratton Reynolds were commissioned to design a new civic space or square as a new focal point for the public realm, community events and activities in Ballyfermot adjacent the Civic Centre and main street.
The project will transform an empty grassed space into a vibrant public square, with proposed colourful light canopies for community events, a playground, play water jets, an ‘outdoor lounge’ complete with ‘sofas’ and raised and sunken gardens. The project will provide a landmark for the community and a focus of civic pride. The concept for the scheme lay-out and distinctive patterns is based on art movements of the early / mid twentieth century (when Ballyfermot was developed) including the work of Mondrian and Kandinsky.
The total budget for the project was €1.5mapprox.
