Call for Nominations for IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award 2026

8th October marks the 125th birth anniversary of ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—ฟ ๐—š๐—ฒ๐—ผ๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฒ (๐Ÿญ๐Ÿต๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌโ€“๐Ÿญ๐Ÿต๐Ÿต๐Ÿฒ), one of the most visionary and influential figures in modern landscape architecture.

A founder and former president of the IFLA, he was instrumental in shaping the professionโ€™s global identity. He described landscape architecture as โ€œthe mother of all arts,โ€ emphasising its power to unite design, ecology, and human experience.

In celebration of his enduring legacy, IFLA announces the ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—œ๐—™๐—Ÿ๐—” ๐—๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฒ ๐—”๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ — the highest honor bestowed by the Federation, recognising a living landscape architect whose lifetime achievements have had a lasting impact on the profession worldwide.

The ๐—๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฒ ๐—”๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ recognizes lifetime achievements that have made a lasting impact on society, the environment, and the advancement of landscape architecture worldwide. It honors individuals whose professional work and influence have elevated the global profile and understanding of the profession.

All nominations must be received by ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฑ ๐—๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ and submitted to the Secretariat for the Jellicoe Award at ๐—ท๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ@๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—น๐—ฑ.๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ด.

The Jellicoe Award was initiated in 2004. Previous winners include Gรผnther Vogt (2025), James Corner (2024), YoungSun Jung (2023), Adriaan Geuze (2022), Jala Makhzoumi (2021), and Kongjian Yu (2020). Please refer to the IFLA website here for more information:

The award commemorates the outstanding contributions to IFLA of Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe (1900โ€“96), the President of Honour who served IFLA as founding president from 1948ยญโ€“54. Jellicoe was a leading landscape architect with a career spanning almost 80 years. Trained as an architect, Jellicoe devoted his career to landscape architecture after a year-long study tour of Italian renaissance gardens. Jellicoeโ€™s rich contributions include the Kennedy Memorial at Runnymede and the gardens at Shute House, considered some of his greatest works. Jellicoe published over seventeen books including three with his wife and collaborator, Lady Susan Jellicoe. Jellicoe was a founding member and president of the British Institute of Landscape Architects, later the Landscape Institute. He received a knighthood for services to landscape architecture in 1979 and in 1994 was awarded the Royal Horticultural Societyโ€™s highest award, the Victoria Medal of Honour.
