Landscape Visual Impact Assessment Micro Credential
- the first of its kind in Ireland, the UK and Europe -
The LVIA micro-credential was launched at Limerick University in January 2026 and attended by Irish Landscape Institute members Nuno Costa, MILI, ILI Council; Bernadette O'Connell; MILI, ILI past president; Richard Barker, MILI. This 7-week online micro-credential commissioned by GreenTech Skillnet Ireland, and developed by the University of Limerick in collaboration with relevant Industry, introduces learners to Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) for renewable energy projects, particularly wind farms.
Participants will gain skills in applying industry-standard guidelines (e.g. GLVIA), using spatial tools like GIS and remote sensing, assessing landscape and visual receptors, and developing mitigation strategies.
The module includes real-world case studies and group project work, with assessment based on a comprehensive research project and oral presentation.
It is suitable for professionals in planning, sustainability, environmental consultancy, and policy, and is part of the Master in Sustainability and Climate Futures pathway.
Delivered by leading academics/researchers in Geography and Sustainability from UL’s School of History & Geography and Associate Lecturers from Industry and the Wind Energy Sector.
