Green Tech Skillnet and the University of Limerick are running another intake of the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment micro-credential this autumn

This module provides a comprehensive introduction to Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA). It equips students with the conceptual foundations, technical skills, and applied competencies required to evaluate the potential landscape and visual effects of development. Combining theory, fieldwork, digital spatial analysis, and professional reporting, the module supports learners in developing practical, ethical, and forward-looking LVIA capacities relevant to contemporary planning and environmental practice. It is delivered together with industry partners with years of practical experience in the field.

The Irish Landscape Institute has supported the development of this programme from the outset, and are very pleased that the profession's input has been instrumental in helping establish Ireland's first dedicated accredited LVIA programme.

After the first course in Spring 2026, a collaborative review process resulted in a revised outline for this year’s course making it more accessible to all applicants. Participant feedback from the first cohort was also extremely positive. Learners highlighted the relevance of the subject matter, the opportunity to apply learning to real-world projects, and the value of bringing together professionals from different disciplines involved in landscape and environmental assessment. This feedback, alongside the practitioner review, has helped shape the next iteration of the programme.

  • Accreditation: 6 ECTS credits at NFQ Level 9
  • Fee: €1,100 for eligible participants, reduced from €1,750 (Early bird rate available until the 15th of September i.e. €935 v €1,100 for eligible companies)

Green Tech Skillnet and the University of Limerick are also running an Environmental Impact Assessment for Onshore Wind Farms micro-credential from 12 October, which may be relevant to some members working across environmental planning and renewable energy development.
