ILI CPD Webinar | Camp Small: closing the loop on community forestry by Shaun Preston (Baltimore City, USA)
5-6pm UTC Thursday 11 December 2025
Managed by the Forestry Division of Baltimore City’s Recreation and Parks, Camp Small is the sorting facility for the 9,000 tons of tree debris that is collected annually from city-owned street trees and park trees. Manager Shaun Preston has helped to transform Camp Small from a “Stump Dump” to an urban wood utilization program that repurposes over 2000 tons of material each year. The program offers green and kiln-dried lumber to craftsmen, produces benches and outdoor furniture, and works with City schools on implementing outdoor classrooms and natural exploration areas. Camp Small’s efforts have gained national attention and have become a model program for municipalities looking to start wood utilization programs.
