This presentation will provide a planning-led overview of contemporary playground design, positioning play as an integral component of the landscape and public realm rather than a standalone intervention. It explores how early site analysis, masterplanning, and collaboration between landscape architects and play specialists lead to more coherent, durable, and meaningful play environments.
Biography
Matt Chapman is a playground design and delivery specialist working alongside landscape architects, local authorities, and public bodies across Ireland. His work focuses on planning-led, environmentally sensitive, and inclusive play within the public realm.
He supports design teams from early concept stage through to delivery, ensuring play spaces are site-responsive, compliant, and deliverable.
Matt is an RPII Accredited Operational Inspector and is appointed as Project Supervisor Construction Stage on play-specific works. His approach is informed by international experience, including work in South Africa, where landscape, climate, and social context play a central role in shaping play environments.
