Ger Staunton will talk about the Integrated Constructed Wetland side of the Dublin Urban River LIFE Project, including the door to door assessment.

Biography

Ger Staunton is an engineer with South Dublin County Council, working in their new ‘Natural Water’ section, this sections deals with Water Quality and Water Pollution, as well as surface water drainage issues and rivers and flooding issues.  

He has worked on the Dublin Urban Rivers LIFE Project, which set out to improve water quality in our rivers through two different approaches, Door to Door Misconnection Assessments and Integrated Constructed Wetlands.  Ger delivered the Integrated Constructed Wetland side of the project. 

Biography

Lorraine Beirne is a scientist in the Water Pollution Section of South Dublin County Council, responsible for protecting and enhancing surface and groundwater quality. Lorraine coordinated the Dublin Urban Rivers LIFE (DURL) Project, a collaboration between South Dublin County Council (Lead Authority) and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, with funding received from the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). 

The DURL Project focused on improving urban water quality using a GIS-based methodology for the detection and resolution of domestic misconnections and, where appropriate, construction of Integrated Constructed Wetlands. Lorraine holds a BSc in Environmental Science from NUIG and a MSc in Environmental Engineering from Queens University.
